    Improving pH buffering capacity of an acid soil to regulate nutrient retention and mitigate water pollution using Calciprill and sodium silicate

    Abstract
    In the tropics, high rainfalls and hot temperatures cause the formation of highly weathered acid soils with low pH buffering capacity (pHBC). Such soils are prone to nutrient losses via leaching, surface runoff, and volatilization. The poor nutrient retention of the highly weathered soils can cause environmental pollution in water bodies and detrimentally affect aquatic ecosystem.     A variety of bacterial communities can be found in heavy metal leachate-contaminated soil. These bacteria might have molecular defenses that allow them to endure a high heavy metal concentration. However, there aren't enough datasets on bacterial populations to be exploited for bioremediation, especially the biotreatment of leachate contaminated with heavy metals. This research examined the diversity of the bacterial population in heavy metal leachate-contaminated soil from the Jalan Lipis Sanitary Landfill in Pahang, Malaysia.     Use of nitrogen (N) fertilizers is gaining popularity to meet crop nutrient requirement for sustaining the food security of the increasing global population. However, improper management of N fertilizers in acid soils causes leaching and surface runoff because of excessive rainfalls and poor N retention in the tropics in particular.     Multiple blood collection from an adult Danio rerio is important in most of metabolic studies. The method allows researcher to profile the metabolic dynamic from an individual fishes, which contribute to a high resolution of dataset. Currently, several devices have been developed for the purpose of blood withdrawal from Danio rerio. Limited accessibility to it hindering the log phase development of Danio rerio based studies.     In the view of the latest status and the potential of developing wind energy in South Africa, the present study aims to perform technical–economic–environmental analysis on a wind turbine system with HOMER software using the 20-years average data of the wind speed obtained from NASA's database, for providing the electricity to residential buildings. The results showed that the Port Elizabeth station, had the lowest levelized cost of electricity (LCOE) with the value of -0.363 $/kWh when using the EOLO wind turbine, and the Bloemfontein station had the highest LCOE with the value of 1.601 $/kWh when using the Turby wind turbine.     Morphology measurements could be used as a scale when converted into length-length or length-weight relationships. Size relationships could indicate variability for health and growth within horseshoe crab populations. However, in previous attempts, the selection of morphology units changed with every population.     In this paper, we analyze the sensitivity degradation of a system due to various orders of chromatic dispersion. To do this, the power penalty of the uncoded and encoded pulse of a coherent ultrashort light pulse Code Division Multiple Access (CDMA) communication system due to various orders of chromatic dispersions are analyzed. Analysis of uncoded pulse shows that the power penalty is unacceptably high when second order dispersion is not compensated.
