    Multi-objective non-linear fixed charge transportation problem with multiple modes of transportation in crisp and interval environments

    This paper aims to propose an approach based on NSGA-II for solving multi-objective non-linear fixed charge transportation problem with multiple modes of transport in crisp and interval environments. Certain modifications need to be made in the existing NSGA-II configuration to calculate the crowding distance of a solution in the interval environment. Besides, a crossover and a mutation scheme suitable for multiple modes of transportation are developed. In the end, a set of test problems are solved in both environments and some comparative studies are performed restricting the problem to only one mode of transport at a time.     Abstract
    We present an analytically tractable non-linear model of structure formation in a Universe with only dust. The model is a Lematre-Tolman-Bondi solution (of general relativity) and structures are shells of different density. We show that the luminosity distance-redshift relation has significant corrections at low redshift when the density contrast becomes non-linear. A minimal effect is a correction in apparent magnitudes of order . We discuss different possibilities that could further enhance this effect and mimic dark energy. © IOP Publishing Ltd

    Abstract
    Generalizing Lee's inductive argument for counting the cells of higher order Voronoi tessellations in ℝ2 to ℝ3, we get precise relations in terms of Morse theoretic quantities for piecewise constant functions on planar arrangements. Specifically, we prove that for a generic set of n ≥ 5 points in ℝ3, the number of regions in the order-k Voronoi tessellation is Nk−1 − (k/2)n + n, for 1 ≤ k ≤ n − 1, in which Nk−1 is the sum of Euler characteristics of these function's first k − 1 sublevel sets.     Abstract
    The Voronoi tessellation in Rd is defined by locally minimizing the power distance to given weighted points. Symmetrically, the Delaunay mosaic can be defined by locally maximizing the negative power distance to other such points. We prove that the average of the two piecewise quadratic functions is piecewise linear, and that all three functions have the same critical points and values. Discretizing the two piecewise quadratic functions, we get the alpha shapes as sublevel sets of the discrete function on the Delaunay mosaic, and analogous shapes as superlevel sets of the discrete function on the Voronoi tessellation.     Abstract
    We theoretically study a Kitaev chain with a quasiperiodic potential, where the quasiperiodicity is introduced by a Fibonacci sequence. Based on an analysis of the Majorana zero-energy mode, we find the critical p-wave superconducting pairing potential separating a topological phase and a non-topological phase. The topological phase diagram with respect to Fibonacci potentials follow a self-similar fractal structure characterized by the box-counting dimension, which is an example of the interplay of fractal and topology like the Hofstadter's butterfly in quantum Hall insulators. © 2017 The Physical Society of Japan

    Transferring large models in federated learning (FL) networks is often hindered by clients' limited bandwidth. We propose $ extsf {FedAA}$ , an FL algorithm which achieves fast convergence by exploiting the regularized Anderson acceleration (AA) on the global level. First, we demonstrate that FL can benefit from acceleration methods in numerical analysis. Second, $ extsf {FedAA}$ improves the convergence rate for quadratic losses and improves the empirical performance for smooth and strongly convex objectives, compared to FedAvg, an FL algorithm using gradient descent (GD) local updates.     Natural convection in a porous enclosure in the presence of thermal dispersion is investigated. The Fourier–Galerkin (FG) spectral element method is adapted to solve the coupled equations of Darcy’s flow and heat transfer with a full velocity-dependent dispersion tensor, employing the stream function formulation. A sound implementation of the FG method is developed to obtain accurate solutions within affordable computational costs. Taking the properties of the power amplifiers (PAs) into account, we derive closed-form expressions for the optimal power allocation, the outage probability and the throughput in the cases with a sum consumed energy constraint.     Correlations disguised in various forms underlie a host of important phenomena in classical and quantum systems, such as information and energy exchanges. The quantum mutual information and the norm of the correlation matrix are both considered as proper measures of total correlations. We demonstrate that, when applied to the same system, these two measures can actually show significantly different behavior except at least in two limiting cases: when there are no correlations and when there is maximal quantum entanglement.
