Experimental Study of Swirling Flames Dynamics

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Bagheri Sadeghi, Nojan (Author) ; Farshchi, Mohammad (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Lean premixed flames bring both benefits and challenges to combustion systems. While they have low emission levels and high efficiencies, they are also very susceptible to combustion instabilities. Low swirl burners have been shown to be very capable in stabilizing lean premixed flames.
In this thesis, behavior of low swirl flames under conditions of variable equivalence ratio (0.6 – 0.8), mean flow velocity (3.5 – 5.5 m/s), and excitation frequency is investigated. In static stability diagram of the flame, a region is observed in which stability mode of the flame is dependent on the path that takes the flame to its operating point (hysteresis region). Increasing the recess distance of...

Cerebrovascular Attack Detection Using Artificial Intelligent Neural Network

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Bagheri, Mahdi (Author) ; Bagheri Shouraki, Saeed (Supervisor) ; Haj Sadeghi, Khosrow (Co-Advisor)
    Abstract
Cerebrovascular Attack has been ranked the second or third of top 10 death causes in Taiwan. It has caused about 13,000 deaths every year since 1986. Once Cerebrovascular Attack (CVA) occurs, it not only leads to the huge cost of medical care, but even death. All developed countries in the world put CVA prevention and treatment in high priority. However, it is necessary to build a detective model to enhance the accurate diagnosis of CVA. From this detective model, CVA classification rules were extracted and used to improve the diagnosis and detection of CVA. This study acquired 2449 valid samples from this CVA prevention and treatment program, and adopted three classification algorithms,...

Experimental characterization of response of lean premixed low-swirl flames to acoustic excitations

    , Article International Journal of Spray and Combustion Dynamics ; Volume 5, Issue 4 , 2013 , Pages 309-328 ; 17568277 (ISSN) Bagheri Sadeghi, N ; Shahsavari, M ; Farshchi, M ; Sharif University of Technology
    2013
    Abstract
Acoustically excited lean premixed low-swirl flames were experimentally investigated to gain a better understanding of detrimental thermoacoustic couplings which can occur in applications like low-NOx gas turbines. Propane-air flames were imaged and analyzed at equivalence ratios of 0.6 to 0.8, mean flow velocities of 3.5 to 5.5 m/s and excitation frequencies of 135 Hz to 555 Hz. It was observed that with increasing excitation frequency, mean flame shape gradually became wider up to a Strouhal number of about 2.5 and then slowly reverted back to the unexcited flame shape. Such large changes in mean flame shape and possibly flow field under acoustic excitations can significantly affect flame...

Study of Fracture Behavior of Hybrid Polypropylene-Based Composites Containing Glass and Basalt Fibers

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Sadeghi Nejad Parizi, Mohammad Reza (Author) ; Bagheri, Reza (Supervisor)
    Abstract
The use of multi-layer random polypropylene (PPR) pipes of pipe-grade is expanding in the construction industry. The middle layer of these pipes is traditionally reinforced with glass fibers to meet the temperature and internal pressure conditions of the pipe. In recent years, with the aim of improving the lifespan and efficiency of these pipes and considering the perspective of using natural materials instead of synthetic materials, the use of basalt fibers has also been on the agenda of the pioneers of this industry. Basalt fibers are natural mineral fibers obtained from volcanic rocks. Compared to glass fibers, basalt fibers have approximately 5% higher density; however, their tensile,...

    Abstract
Free vibration response of a joined shell system including cylindrical and spherical shells is analyzed in this research. It is assumed that the system of joined shell is made from a functionally graded material (FGM). Properties of the shells are assumed to be graded through the thickness. Both shells are unified in thickness. To capture the effects of through-the-thickness shear deformations and rotary inertias, first-order shear deformation theory of shells is used. The Donnell type of kinematic assumptions is adopted to establish the general equations of motion and the associated boundary and continuity conditions with the aid of Hamilton’s principle. The resulting system of equations is...

    Abstract
We propose a new nonlinear Rao-Nam like symmetric key encryption scheme. In our design, we employ a specific type of coded modulation schemes namely quasi-cyclic low-density parity-check (QC-LDPC) lattice-codes which have low-complexity encoding and decoding algorithms. Due to the application of coded modulation schemes in our design, the proposed scheme performs encryption, encoding and modulation simultaneously. Therefore, we regard the proposed scheme as a joint cryptosystem. The proposed joint cryptosystem withstands all variants of chosen plaintext attacks applied on Rao-Nam like cryptosystems due to its nonlinearity. Moreover, some conditions implying the uniformity of the ciphertexts...

    Abstract
In this article, a methodology is developed to solve an interval and a fractional interval programming problem by converting into a non-interval form for second order cone constraints, with the objective function and constraints being interval valued functions. We investigate the parametric and non-parametric forms of the interval valued functions along with their convexity properties. Two approaches are developed to obtain efficient and properly efficient solutions. Furthermore, the efficient solutions or Pareto optimal solutions of fractional and non-fractional programming problems over R + n S (0) are also discussed. The main idea of the present article is to introduce a new concept for...

    Abstract
Our main interest in the present article is to consider a fractional program with both linear and quadratic equation in numerator and denominator with second order cone (SOC) constraints. With a suitable change of variable, we transform the problem into a second order cone programming (SOCP) problem. For the quadratic fractional case, using a relaxation, then the problem is reduced to a semi-definite optimization (SDO)) program. The problem is solved with SDO relaxation and the obtained results are compared with the interior point method (IPM), sequential quadratic programming approach (SQP), active set, genetic algorithm. It is observe that the SDO relaxation method is much more accurate...

    Abstract
Some efficient interior-point methods (IPMs) are based on using a self-concordant barrier function related to the feasibility set of the underlying problem. Here, we use IPMs for solving fractional programming problems involving second order cone constraints. We propose a logarithmic barrier function to show the self concordant property and present an algorithm to compute ε—solution of a fractional programming problem. Finally, we provide a numerical example to illustrate the approach. © 2021. All Rights Reserved

    Abstract
The morphology of a quaternary blend containing a diglycidyl ether of bisphenol-A (DGEBA), a thermoplastic modifier (PMMA), a phase-separating curing agent (diaminodiphenylmethane, DDM), and a non-phase-separating curing agent (methylenebis(3-chloro-2,6-diethylaniline, MCDEA) was studied as a function of volume fraction of the thermoplastic modifier and fractional concentration of the curing agents in their mixture. It was found that using mixtures of curing agents a co-continuous morphology could be obtained at PMMA concentrations as low as 2.5 volume percent. Using FTIR spectroscopy it was proved that specific interactions are present between PMMA and individual amine curing agents. On the...

    Union of low-rank subspaces detector

    Abstract
The problem of signal detection using a flexible and general model is considered. Owing to applicability and flexibility of sparse signal representation and approximation, it has attracted a lot of attention in many signal processing areas. In this study, the authors propose a new detection method based on sparse decomposition in a union of subspaces model. Their proposed detector uses a dictionary that can be interpreted as a bank of matched subspaces. This improves the performance of signal detection, as it is a generalisation for detectors. Low-rank assumption for the desired signals implies that the representations of these signals in terms of some proper bases would be sparse. Their...

    Abstract
Surface modification of orthopedic implants using titanium dioxide nanotubes and silver nanoparticles (SNs) is a promising approach to prevent bacteria adhesion, biofilm formation, and implant infection. Herein, we utilized a straightforward and all-solution process to prepare silver-decorated TiO2 nanotube arrays with surface density of 10(3) to 10(4) per µm(2). With controlling the synthesis conditions, hexagonal closed-packed nanotubes with opening diameter of 30-100 nm that are decorated with SNs with varying sizes (12-40 nm) were prepared. Various analytical techniques were utilized to characterize the size, morphology, distribution, valance state, surface roughness, and composition of...

    Abstract
Recent uses of intelligent composites in biomedical appliances aggrandize the necessity of bonding-strength improvement in NiTi/silicone matrix interface. SEM micrographs and pull-out tests are employed to determine the strength of the NiTi/silicone bonds in a flexible composite piece. Greater adhesion strengths are obtained due to the presence of thin oxide layer, surface roughness and frictional forces between the embedded-wires and the contacting phase. Effect of curing treatment on phase transformation temperatures of the wires is determined by electrical resistivity (ER) measurements. Results show that the curing treatment shifts the transition points of the wires towards higher...

    Abstract
The goal of this paper was to create a new method for analyzing the online real estate flyers based on their property types. We created an algorithm which identifies the buildings and windows from the buildings in order to extract some useful features for classifying the flyers. Our novel approach for building recognition has two main steps: 1- Building Detector 2- Region Growing. Our novel window detection algorithm uses vanishing point to identify nearly the best angle for applying window detection. It transforms the 2D image into 3D and rotates the 3D image around the z-axis and picks the appropriate angle based on the vanishing points. Using these two novel techniques we were be able to...
