Abstract
SiBNC nanofibers were synthesized through the polymeric route by a one-pot synthesis approach. DMTA (dichloroboryl methyl trichlorosilyl amine) polymer was selected as pre-ceramic for SiBNC, which was shaped into nanofibers by electrospinning. Then, the nanofibers were cured in an inert atmosphere in order to obtain the final ceramic. By changing the curing atmosphere, the compound of final ceramic has been manipulated. In addition, the ceramic yield of DMTA as a preceramic was increased in the nitrogen atmosphere. Amorphous SiBNC ceramics have been developed as new high temperature materials. They show a high resistance against crystallization, high mechanical properties, low density, and high oxidation stability. Abstract
In this study, standard composite laminate specimens with micro and nano sized particle additives are made to study the effect of the additives on the fracture toughness of the specimens in standard tests. The composite laminates are made from epoxy resin and unidirectional glass fibers. The mode I and mode II fracture toughness of the specimens are measured under various loadings in standard tests. The fracture surface is then, fractogaphed by microscopic instruments. In conclusion, the fracture behavior of laminated composites, toughened by micro and nano particles is discussed. Discrete-time Markov Chains (MCs) and Markov Decision Processes (MDPs) are two standard formalisms in system analysis. Their main associated quantitative objectives are hitting probabilities, discounted sum, and mean payoff. Although there are many techniques for computing these objectives in general MCs/MDPs, they have not been thoroughly studied in terms of parameterized algorithms, particularly when treewidth is used as the parameter. In this paper, we first analyze a real storage system consisting of 72 SSDs utilizing either Hardware RAID (HW-RAID) or Software RAID (SW-RAID), and show that SW-RAID is up to 7× faster. We then reveal that with an increasing number of SSDs, the limited I/O parallelism in SAS controllers and multi-enclosure handshaking overheads cause a significant performance drop, minimizing the total I/O Per Second (IOPS) of a 144-SSD system to less than a single SSD. A geopolymeric cement production process includes two steps of thermal activation and alkaline activation. Geopolymers are cementitious materials synthesized by a polycondensation reaction between an aluminate and silicate. Abstract
We consider the fundamental problem of reachability analysis over imperative programs with real variables. Previous works that tackle reachability are either unable to handle programs consisting of general loops (e.g. symbolic execution), or lack completeness guarantees (e.g. abstract interpretation), or are not automated (e.g. incorrectness logic). In contrast, we propose a novel approach for reachability analysis that can handle general and complex loops, is complete, and can be entirely automated for a wide family of programs. Abstract
The rupturing process of a membrane, located between two fluids at the center of a three-dimensional channel, is numerically investigated. The smoothed particle hydrodynamics (SPH) and the finite element method (FEM) are used, respectively, for modeling the fluid and solid phases. A range of pressure differences and membrane thicknesses are studied and two different rupturing processes are identified. These processes differ in the time scale of the rupture, the location of the rupture initiation, the level of destruction and the driving mechanism. © 2019 by the authors
