    Abstract
    In 1974 Dijkstra introduced the seminal concept of self-stabilization that turned out to be one of the main approaches to fault-tolerant computing. We show here how his three solutions can be formalized and reasoned about using the concepts of game theory. We also determine the precise number of steps needed to reach self-stabilization in his first solution. © Springer International Publishing AG, part of Springer Nature 2018

    In this paper, we propose what we believe is a novel sensitive micro-optoelectromechanical systems (MOEMS) accelerometer based on intensity modulation by using a one-dimensional photonic crystal. The optical sensing system of the proposed structure includes an air-dielectric multilayer photonic bandgap material, a laser diode (LD) light source, a typical photodiode (1550 nm) and a set of integrated optical waveguides.     Abstract
    We propose a triple-tunnel junction single electron transistor (TTJ-SET). The proposed structure consists of a metallic quantum-dot island that is capacitive coupled to a gate contact and surrounded by three tunnel junctions. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first instance of introducing this new structure that is suitable for both digital and analog applications. I-V D characteristics of the proposed TTJ-SET, simulated by a HSPICE macro model for various gate voltages, are in excellent agreement with those obtained by SIMON, which is a Monte-Carlo based simulator.     This paper addresses the use of robotic tissue manipulation in medical needle insertion procedures to improve targeting accuracy and to help avoid damaging sensitive tissues. To control these multiple, potentially competing objectives, we present a phased controller that operates one manipulator at a time using closed-loop imaging feedback. We present an automated procedure planning technique that uses tissue geometry to select the needle insertion location, manipulation locations, and controller parameters.     Abstract
    Let G be a graph and F: V(G) → 2N be a mapping. The graph G is said to be F- avoiding if there exists an orientation O of G such that do +(v)∉ F (v) for every v ∈ V (G), where do +(v) denotes the out-degree of v in the directed graph G with respect to O. In this paper it is shown that if G is bipartite and |F (v)| ≤ dG (v)/2 for every v ∈ V (G), then G is F-avoiding. The bound |F (v)| ≤ dG (v)/2 is best possible. For every graph G, we conjecture that if |F (v)| ≤ 1/2 dG (v)-1) for every v ∈ V (G), then G is F-avoiding.     The excellent photoluminescent properties of Fe3O4-graphene quantum dots (Fe3O4/GQD) nanoparticles prepared at 30 and 90 °C have made them as promising optical probes for imaging. Herein, the cytotoxicity of GQD and Fe3O4/GQD nanoparticles in L929 cells was investigated using MTT [3-(4,5-dimethylthiazol-2-yl)-2,5-diphenyltetrazolium Bromide] assay. The cellular apoptosis or necrosis was then evaluated by flow cytometry analysis.     In the present study, two preconditioners proposed by Eriksson, and Choi and Merkel are implemented on a 3D upwind Euler flow solver on unstructured meshes. The mathematical formulations of these preconditioning schemes for the set of primitive variables Q→p 1=[ρ u v , w p] T are drawn and their eigenvalues and eigenvectors are compared with each others. A cell-centered finite volume Roe's method is used for discretization of the 3D preconditioned Euler equations.     Surface pressure measurements were conducted for a pitch oscillation wing in a subsonic closed circuit wind tunnel. Experimental results have been used to train a multilayer perceptron network to foresee the effect of modification of oscillation amplitude and reduced frequency.     We report the results of our numerical investigation on the temperature dependence of the characteristics of the cylindrical gate-all-around Si nanowire field effect transistor (Si-NW-FET). Assuming the effect of temperature on the energy band structure of Si just like the effect of strain, we simulate the transistor characteristics at various temperatures (50 K ≤ T ≤ 300 K).
