Simulation of Drug Delivery to Knee Cartilage using High Intensity Focused Ultrasound and Providing Solutions to Improve Drug Delivery
, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology ; Ahmadian, Mohamad Taghi (Supervisor)
Abstract
According to statistics published by the World Health Organization, 9.6% of men and 18% of women over the age of 60 exhibit symptoms of osteoarthritis(OA). Cur- rently, there is no cure for OA, but there are medications that have shown promising results. Drug delivery methods to the cartilage include oral and injectable adminis- tration, neither of which deliver sufficient amounts of the drug to the cartilage unless administered in high doses, which can cause toxicity. High-Intensity Focused Ultra- sound (HIFU) can play a role in drug delivery to the cartilage by creating a pressure field. HIFU application to the body is non-invasive as it is applied externally. Ad- ditionally, HIFU can...

One of the major problems of using acoustic waves is the absorption of high frequency waves by the tissue before reaching the target area. in this study, a finite element model used to find the relation between frequency and acoustic pressure of transducer and focal region intensity. the results show, the maximum intensity in focal region linearly proportional to frequency...
Investigation of the Recovery Time and Hyper-Viscoelastic Properties of the Brain Tissue
, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology ; Ahmadian, Mohammad Taghi (Supervisor)
Abstract
FE simulations have been widely used to investigate the response of the brain tissue in various circumstances. The accuracy of the material models critically affects the results of the numerical simulation. However, despite the numerous studies aiming for the material modeling of the brain, there is still divergence between the results reported in the literature. A part of this discrepancy is due to the inherent difference between samples. Nonetheless, another part of it is resulted from the differences between testing protocols used by researchers. In some protocols multiple mechanical tests are performed on each sample. Enough recovery time should be considered between consecutive test...
Image Improvement Using Sepuer-Resolution Method
, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology ; Manzuri Shalmani, Mohamad Taghi (Supervisor)
Abstract
Today digital imaging systems have been widely used due to their ease of use and proper costs, but still they suffer from low contrast and resolution. Because of technical limits and expensiveness of hardware, software techniques like super resolution have been used. By super resolution we mean increasing the density of an image’s pixels. Super resolution can be categorized as “single image super resolution” and “multi-image super resolution”. Single image super resolution is applied on a low quality image which has blur and/or noise of environment and imaging system and increases its quality and density to an acceptable level. In multi-image super resolution some auxiliary images captured...

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology ; Ahmadian, Mohammad Taghi (Supervisor)
Abstract
Micro electromechanical systems (MEMS) such as sensors and actuators are gaining more popularity in recent years. These systems have different application in automation, medicine and other industries. Mechanical structures are governed by electrical systems in MEMS devices and this is one of the challenges of MEMS studies. Usually these systems made by one deformable beam or plate over a fixed substrate. Due to applied voltage between substrate and deformable plate or beam, the deformable plate deflects toward the fixed substrate. The voltage at which the system becomes unstableis called pull-in voltage. Pull-in voltage is the most important characteristics of MEMS beyond which pull-in takes...

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology ; Ahmadian, Mohammad Taghi (Supervisor)
Abstract
In this thesis, the influence of nonideal boundary conditions on the vibration of a functionally graded beam excited by a moving oscillator on Pasternak-type viscoelastic foundation has been investigated. The beam has simply-supported boundary conditions and is assumed that the right-hand-side boundary conditions allows for small deflection, moment and axial force. The beam property gradient is assumed to be in the thickness direction and varies according to the power law distribution. The Hamilton's principle is utilized to obtain the governing equations of motion under the assumptions of Euler-Bernoulli beam theory. The equations of motion of the beam are solved using an...

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology ; Ahmadian, Mohammad-Taghi (Supervisor)
Abstract
After Alzheimer and brain attack, the most common neurological disorder is epilepsy, which often involves seizures. In two-thirds of patients with epilepsy, the seizures can be controlled by antiepileptic drugs, and about 8% of patients can use epilepsy surgery; but unfortunately there is no acceptable treatment for the other 25% of these patients. Therefore preventing from epilepsy losses is a very important topic.
The gold standard for the diagnosis of the epilepsy is EEG monitoring. In this method, electrodes are placed on the scalp. Electrodes are uncomfortable to wear, and cause invasion to the patient, hence long-term monitoring and home monitoring is not feasible. In some...

Abstract
The purpose of this project is the analysis of free and forced vibrations of sandwich panels under moving loads. In order to analyze the problem, sandwich panels are modeled as composite square plates. By using third order shear deformation theory, equations of motion are derived. Equations of motion with six different boundary conditions are solved utilizing generalized differential quadrature method. Natural frequencies are obtained for simple cases reported in the literature. In addition, a sandwich panel under moving load with simply supported boundary conditions is analyzed and time series response of the middle point is obtained. The time series response is also studied parametrically...

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology ; Ahmadian, Mohammad Taghi (Supervisor)
Abstract
The need to supply energy of low voltage electronic circuits such as sensors and wireless systems has attracted many researchers in recent years. As a solution to this problem, the energy needed for electronic devices can be obtained from the surrounding environment. An important part of energy harvesters are the systems that use vibrating energy of mechanical devices known as vibration power generators. Most linear vibration generators are systems that operate in resonance mode. As the frequency of the environment moves away from the natural frequency of the generator, the amount of converted energy decreases significantly. For this reason, some solutions are needed to solve this problem. ...
