    Abstract
In the era of widespread e-commerce adoption, businesses encounter challenges in managing e-channel demand and production constraints. This study explores an e-channel with an e-retailer with no pattern demand, a primary supplier, and a backup supplier to address these issues through outsourcing. The primary supplier, facing limited production capacity and potential failure, seeks assistance from the backup supplier under a vendor-managed inventory (VMI) strategy. Two contracts, a conventional contract with penalties for rejecting units and an option contract allowing negotiations, are compared. Results indicate that the option contract promotes a win-win scenario, enhancing overall...

Analyzing the effectiveness of the landscape and ecology approaches in establishing a sustainable human-environment relationship in adaptive reuse

    , Article Lecture Notes in Networks and Systems ; Volume 1188 , 2024 , Pages 340-349 ; 23673370 (ISSN); 978-303174715-1 (ISBN) Hemmati, M ; Amiri, A ; Zarra-Nezhad, M

    Abstract
Adaptive Reuse is a relatively new approach that aims to restore the relationship between humans and nature by providing a set of concepts and methods that lead to a sustainable interaction between the two. While the ecological approach is one of the most well-known sustainability sciences, it only considers the physical aspects of the relationship between humans and nature and does not account for its semantic dimensions. This research seeks to answer the question of which approach is most effective in establishing a stable relationship between humans and the environment. To achieve this, this article examines the theoretical foundations of Adaptive Reuse and the pathology of the...

    Abstract
The continous growth of wireless networks, the increasing numbers of users and devices, along with the demand for higher data rates have intensified the frequency band limitations as the communication medium. In search for more efficient methods to use this limited resource, the cognitive radio approach that allocates the local unused frequency bands to potential users has attracted considerable attension.
A fundamental and unseperable part of any cognitive radio system is its need to search, detect and understand the surrounding frequency spectrum. Although various methods have been already propose to overcome the challenges of this domain, simpler and more reliable methods are still in...

    Abstract
Discrimination of chiral targets is generally achieved with chiral nanomaterials. However, the limited number of intrinsic chiral nanostructures as well as their complex synthesis procedure has led to the production of chirality-induced nanomaterials as alternatives. Chirality can be induced in nanomaterials by either chirality transfer or the formation of chiral assemblies. Using the latter approach, in this work, we have provided chiral supramolecular assemblies of CdTe quantum dots (QDs) from achiral starting materials. CTAB-QD assemblies showed chiroptical activities, and their orange emission in combination with the blue emission of carbon dots was utilized as a ratiometric chiral...

    Abstract
Large-scale simulation of spiking neural networks on hardware with a remarkable resemblance to their mathematical models is a key objective of the neuromorphic discipline. This issue is, however, considerably resource-intensive due to the presence of nonlinear terms in neuron models. This paper proposes a novel uniform piecewise linear segmentation approach for nonlinear function evaluations. Employing the proposed approach, we present a uniform-segmented adaptive exponential neuron model capable of accurately producing various responses exhibited by the original model and suitable for efficient large-scale implementation. In contrast to previous nonuniform-segmented neuron models, the...

    Abstract
Levodopa [L-3, 4-dihydroxyphenylalanine, or L-DOPA] is an important neurotransmitter used for the treatment of neural disorders such as Parkinson's disease. Abnormal L-Dopa concentrations in biological fluids can be used for the evaluation of such diseases. In this work, a rapid and sensitive method for L-DOPA detection has been reported which is based on in situ formation of polylevodopa nanoparticles. Under alkaline conditions, L-DOPA is spontaneously oxidized to its quinone derivative and shows fluorescence properties. The fluorescence signal of the oxidation product has been monitored and used for the determination of L-DOPA in the presence of dopamine, uric acid, ascorbic acid and other...

    Abstract
Pore facies analysis plays an important role in the classification of reservoir rocks and reservoir simulation studies. The current study proposes a two-step approach for pore facies characterization in the carbonate reservoirs with an example from the Kangan and Dalan formations in the South Pars gas field. In the first step, pore facieswere determined based on Mercury Injection Capillary Pressure (MICP) data in corporation with the Hierarchical Clustering Analysis (HCA) method. Each pore facies represents a specific type of pore geometry indicating the interaction between the primary rock fabric and its diagenetic overprints. In the next step, polynomial meta-models were established based...

    Abstract
In this study a 2D cubic chamber model filled with paraffin is analyzed with and without the inclusion of magnetic Fe3O4 nanoparticles at concentrations of 0.5, 1, 1.5 and 2 wt%, and an external magnetic field of intensities 0.005, 0.01, 0.015 and 0.02 T. It is ascertained that adding magnetic nanoparticles leads the horizontal temperature gradient to be reduced owing to increments in thermal conductivity. Additionally, this feature is found to be accelerated by applying an external magnetic field, which shapes highly conductive cluster formations of nanoparticles. However, since the increase in nanoparticle concentration and magnetic intensity increases the composite viscosity, there is an...

    Abstract
In this paper, we propose CodedSketch, as a distributed straggler-resistant scheme to compute an approximation of the multiplication of two massive matrices. The objective is to reduce the recovery threshold, defined as the total number of worker nodes that the master node needs to wait for to be able to recover the final result. To exploit the fact that only an approximated result is required, in reducing the recovery threshold, some sorts of pre-compression are required. However, compression inherently involves some randomness that would lose the structure of the matrices. On the other hand, considering the structure of the matrices is crucial to reduce the recovery threshold. In...

Berrut Approximated Coded Computing: Straggler Resistance beyond Polynomial Computing

    Abstract
One of the major challenges in using distributed learning to train complicated models with large data sets is to deal with stragglers effect. As a solution, coded computation has been recently proposed to efficiently add redundancy to the computation tasks. In this technique, coding is used across data sets, and computation is done over coded data, such that the results of an arbitrary subset of worker nodes with a certain size are enough to recover the final results. The major drawbacks with those approaches are (1) they are limited to polynomial functions, (2) the number of servers that we need to wait for grows with the degree of the model, (3) they are not numerically stable for...

Improved fourier analysis of periodically patterned graphene sheets embedded in multilayered structures and its application to the design of a broadband tunable wide-angle polarizer

    , Article IEEE Journal of Quantum Electronics ; Volume 53, Issue 3 , 2017 ; 00189197 (ISSN) Fadakar, H ; Borji, A ; Zeidaabadi Nezhad, A ; Shahabadi, M ; Sharif University of Technology
    2017
    Abstract
Numerical modeling of periodically patterned graphene sheets (PPGS) embedded in planar multilayered media using Fourier-based methods suffers from very slow convergence because of the fact that the conductivity is zero in unfilled areas of the patterned surface and, thus, the so-called Li's inverse rule is not applicable. In this paper, a simple and efficient approach is proposed to overcome this problem such that the exact boundary condition can be applied and the surface current density on PPGS can be obtained accurately. Here, the PPGS is modeled as a conductive surface and only its conductivity representation by the Fourier series is modified. The proposed method can be used easily for...

A sensitive colorimetric detection of ascorbic acid in pharmaceutical products based on formation of anisotropic silver nanoparticles

    , Article Scientia Iranica ; Volume 17, Issue 2 F , 2010 , Pages 148-153 ; 10263098 (ISSN) Hormozi Nezhad, M. R ; Karimi, M. A ; Shahheydari, F ; Sharif University of Technology
    2010
    Abstract
A sensitive colorimetric method for the detection of ascorbic acid was proposed in this research based on the reduction of silver ions by ascorbic acid in the presence of citrate-stabilized silver seeds, additional trisodium citrate and a polymer such as polyvinylpyrrolidone. The color of the stable sol is controlled by varying the concentration of trisodium citrate (TSC), polyvinylpyrrolidone, silver nitrate and silver seeds. The reduction of Ag + to triangle silver nanoparticles (Ag-NPs) by ascorbic acid in the presence of trisodium citrate (TSC) and silver seeds produced two very intense surface plasmon resonance peaks of Ag-NPs. The plasmon absorbance of Ag-NPs allows the quantitative...

Phase transition to spatial Bloch-like oscillation in squeezed photonic lattices

    , Article Physical Review A - Atomic, Molecular, and Optical Physics ; Volume 88, Issue 2 , 2013 ; 10502947 (ISSN) Nezhad, M. K ; Bahrampour, A. R ; Golshani, M ; Mahdavi, S. M ; Langari, A ; Sharif University of Technology

    Abstract
We propose an exactly solvable waveguide lattice incorporating an inhomogeneous coupling coefficient. This structure provides classical analogs to the squeezed number and squeezed coherent intensity distribution in quantum optics where the propagation length plays the role of a squeezed amplitude. The intensity pattern is obtained in a closed form for an arbitrary distribution of the initial beam profile. We have also investigated the phase transition to the spatial Bloch-like oscillations by adding a linear gradient to the propagation constant of each waveguide (α). Our analytical results show that the Bloch-like oscillations appear above a critical value for the linear gradient of the...

Stability, size and optical properties of colloidal silver nanoparticles prepared by electrical arc discharge in water

    , Article EPJ Applied Physics ; Volume 48, Issue 1 , 2009 , Pages 10601p1-10601p7 ; 12860042 (ISSN) Ashkarran, A. A ; Iraji Zad, A ; Ahadian, M. M ; Hormozi Nezhad, M. R ; Sharif University of Technology

    Abstract
We have fabricated and characterised colloidal silver nanoparticles by the electrical arc discharge method in DI water. Size and optical properties of the silver nanoparticles were studied versus different arc currents. Optical absorption indicates a plasmonic peak at 392 nm for 10 A which increases to 398 nm for 20 A arc current. This reveals that by raising the arc current the size of the nanoparticles increases. Optical absorption of silver nanoparticles after 3 weeks shows precipitation of them in a water medium. The effect of different surfactant and stabilizer concentrations such as cethyl trimethylammonium bromide (CTAB), polyvinyl pyrrolidone (PVP), sodium citrate, sodium dodecyl...

    Abstract
Background: The miR-451 has been reported to play an important role in colorectal cancer (CRC) pathogenesis and can be a pivotal diagnosis biomarker of CRC. Given the contradictions in the diagnosis value of the miR-451 in patients with CRC, deciphering the diagnostic/prognostic role of this miRNA in CRC will support the identification of a novel therapeutic target for CRC. Therefore, in the present meta-analysis, we evaluated the diagnostic value of miR-451 in CRC patients. Materials and methods: The electronic databases of Embase, PubMed, ISI Web of Science, and Scopus systematically searched for relevant studies. Abstract
Various parameters affect thermal conductivity of nanofluid; however, some of them are more influential such as temperature, size and type of nano particles and volumetric concentration. In this study, artificial neural network as well as least square support vector machine (LSSVM) are applied in order to predict thermal conductivity ratio of alumina/water nanofluid as a function of particle size, temperature and volumetric concentration. LSSVM, Self-Organizing Map and Levenberg-Marquardt Back Propagation algorithms are applied to predict thermal conductivity ratio. Obtained results indicated that these algorithms are appropriate tool for thermal conductivity ratio prediction. The...

    Abstract
We report a simple, inexpensive and one-step synthesis route of colloidal gold nanoparticles using arc discharge between titanium electrodes in HAuCl 4 solution achieving long-time stability. Gold nanoparticles of 8 nm diameter were formed during reduction of HAuCl4 in the plasma discharge zone. The resulting nanoparticles were characterized using UV-Vis spectroscopy, scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and transmission electron microscopy (TEM). Optical absorption spectroscopy of as prepared samples at 15 A arc current in HAuCl4 solution shows a surface plasmon resonance around 550 nm. It was found that sodium citrate acts as a stabilizer and surface capping agent of the colloidal...

Wide color-varying visualization of sulfide with a dual emissive ratiometric fluorescence assay using carbon dots and gold nanoclusters

    Elsevier Inc  2020
    Abstract
Development of visual detection methods regarding water pollutants can effectively facilitate water resource monitoring programs. A wide color-varying ratiometric approach has been developed for sensitive determination of sulfide by mixing orange emissive glutathione stabilized gold nanoclusters (AuNCs) and blue emissive urea stabilized carbon dots (CDs) in an appropriate ratio. Under a single excitation wavelength of 365 nm, the ratiometric fluorescence (RF) probe exhibited two distinct emission bands at 452 and 607 nm corresponding to CDs and AuNCs, respectively. Owing to the high affinity of sulfide ions to AuNCs in alkaline medium, the fluorescence (FL) of AuNCs was turned-off while the...

Design of a novel HSLA steel with a combination of high strength (140-160 ksi) and excellent toughness

    , Article International Journal of Materials Research ; Volume 112, Issue 10 , 2021 , Pages 800-811 ; 18625282 (ISSN) Nezhad, M. S. A ; Ghazvinian, S ; Amirsalehi, M ; Momeni, A ; Sharif University of Technology

    Abstract
Three steels were designed based on HSLA-100 with additional levels of Mn, Ni, Cr and Cu. The steels were prepared by controlled rolling and tempered at temperatures in range of 550-700°C. The continuous cooling time curves were shifted to longer times and lower temperatures with the increased tendency for the formation of martensite at lower cooling rates. The microstructures revealed that controlled rolling results in austenite with uniform fine grain structure. The steel with the highest amount of Mn showed the greatest strength after tempering at 750 °C. The top strength was attributed to the formation of Cu-rich particles. The steel with 1.03 wt.% Mn, tempered at 650 °C exhibited the...
