Abstract
Fouling in blood flow is very common and may decrease the blood flow in human body and lead to critical health issues. Upon injury in a blood vessel, the body's defensive system triggers a process to create a blood clot called “Thrombus”, which prevents bleeding. Blood clots are formed by a combination of blood cells, platelets, and fibrins. In this study, we investigate a controlled drug delivery using the magnetic nanoparticles in blood vessels under the influence of magnetic fields. For this purpose the Maxwell and the Navier-Stokes equations for the system are solved. In contrary to the previous studies it is assumed that the blood is a non-Newtonian fluid. The number of particles has...

Abstract
Purpose: Although magnetite nanoparticles (MNPs) are promising agents for hyperthermia therapy, insufficient drug encapsulation efficacies inhibit their application as nanocarriers in the targeted drug delivery systems. In this study, porous magnetite nanoparticles (PMNPs) were synthesized and coated with a thermosensitive polymeric shell to obtain a synergistic effect of hyperthermia and chemotherapy. Materials and methods: PMNPs were produced using cetyltrimethyl ammonium bromide template and then coated by a polyethylene glycol layer with molecular weight of 1500 Da (PEG1500) and phase transition temperature of 48 ± 2 °C to endow a thermosensitive behavior. The profile of drug release...

Abstract
Abstract: Superparamagnetic iron oxide nanoparticles (SPIONs) are considered as promising magnetic nanoheating agents for diagnostic as well as therapeutic applications due to their biocompatibility and tunability of magnetic properties. These nanoheating agents are commonly synthesized by coprecipitation of two iron precursors, though applying less amount of these chemicals may minimize the toxicity risks for biomedical purposes. The aim of this study is to address this issue by considering the high oxidation vulnerability of ferrous ions to ferric ions to synthesize SPIONs via a single-iron precursor under four varied oxidative conditions. The obtained results implied that the properties...

Abstract
In the present study, the structural features, corrosion behavior, and in vitro bioactivity of TiO 2 nanotubular arrays coated on Ti–6Al–4V (Ti64) alloy were investigated. For this reason, Ti64 plates were anodized in an ammonium fluoride electrolyte dissolved in a 90:10 ethylene glycol and water solvent mixture at room temperature under a constant potential of 60 V for 1 h. Subsequently, the anodized specimens were annealed in an argon gas furnace at 500 and 700 °C for 1.5 h with a heating and cooling rate of 5 °C min −1 . From XRD analysis and Raman spectroscopy, a highly crystalline anatase phase with tetragonal symmetry was formed from the thermally induced crystallization at 500 °C....

Abstract
The nanotubular arrays of titanium dioxide (TiO2 NTs) have recently received considerable interest for fabrication of dental and orthopedic implants. However, their antibacterial activity requires substantial improvement for the potential infections minimization, without compromise of their biocompatibility. In this work, TiO2 NTs were developed on Ti6Al4V substrates via anodization at a constant potential of 60 V for 60 min, followed by heat treatment at 500 °C for 90 min. Physical vapor deposition (PVD) was further employed to decorate silver oxide nanoparticles (Ag2O NPs) on the nanotubular edges. The results indicated that the highly-ordered TiO2 NTs with decorated Ag2O NPs could promote...

Abstract
A long-term antibacterial activity of implants without compromising their biocompatibility is highly desirable to minimize the biomaterial-associated infections. Although tantalum oxide nanotubes (Ta2O5 NTs) are promising coating materials for orthodontics and orthopedics applications, their insufficient antibacterial activity retains vulnerability to post-implantation infections. This study aimed to endow antibacterial characteristics to the Ta2O5 NTs-coated Ti6Al4V substrates by decoration of silver oxide nanoparticles (Ag2O NPs). The well-adherent Ta2O5 NTs were grown via anodization of a pure tantalum (Ta) layer coated by physical vapor deposition (PVD) on the Ti6Al4V substrates. The...

Abstract
The research presented here investigates the reaction mechanism of wollastonite in situ mineral carbonation for carbon dioxide (CO2) sequestration. Because wollastonite contains high calcium (Ca) content, it was considered as a suitable feedstock in the mineral carbonation process. To evaluate the reaction mechanism of wollastonite for geological CO2 sequestration (GCS), a series of carbonation experiments were performed at a range of temperatures from 35 to 90 °C, pressures from 1500 to 4000 psi, and salinities from 0 to 90,000 mg/L NaCl. The kinetics batch modeling results were validated with carbonation experiments at the specific pressure and temperature of 1500 psi and 65 °C,...

Abstract
In the present study, an optimized liquid-phase microextraction technique based on the deep eutectic solvent (LPME-DES) followed by gas chromatography-flame ionization detector (GC-FID) is developed to determine 13 carcinogenic polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) in water and juice samples. In this regard, central composite design (CCD) was used to design, multiple linear regression (MLR) to model, and Nelder-Mead simplex optimization to optimize the effective LPME-DES factors. The optimum values for DES volume, temperature, extraction time, and salt amount were 112 µL, 72 °C, 9.14 min, and 2.5% (w/v), respectively. Afterward, multivariate calibration based on partial least squares...

Abstract
Untethered small-scale robots can accomplish tasks which are not feasible by conventional macro robots. In the current research, we have designed and fabricated a miniature magnetic robot actuated by an external magnetic field. The proposed robot has two coaxial wheels and one magnetic dipole which is capable of rolling and moving on the surface by variation in the direction of magnetic field. To generate the desired magnetic field, a Helmholtz electromagnetic coil is manufactured. To steer the robot to the desired position, at first the robot dynamics is investigated, and subsequently a controller based on a neuro-fuzzy network has been designed. Finally, the proposed controller is...

Abstract
Improvement of microcantilever-based sensors and actuators chiefly depends on how comprehensively they are modeled and precisely formulated. Atomic Force Microscopy (AFM) is the most widespread application of microcantilever beam as a sensor, which is usually influenced by the tip-sample interaction force. For this, vibration of AFM microcantilever probe is analyzed in this paper, along with analytical, numerical and experimental investigation of the influence of the sample interaction force on the microcantilever vibration. Nonlinear integro-partial equation of microcantilever vibration subject to the tip-sample interaction is then derived and numerically simulated. Moreover, multiple time...

Abstract
Distributed-parameters vibration model of microcantilevers in tapping-mode Atomic Force Microscopy (AFM) is developed and is shown to be highly nonlinear. The question of why these nonlinearities are important and how they influence the predicted frequency response behavior of the cantilevers is addressed by comparing the results of developed model with a simple lumpedparameters model that has been extensively studied in the literature so far. The interaction forces between the microcantilever tip and the sample is supposed to be the same in both models and consist of attractive and repulsive interaction force regimes. In addition, experimental measurements are provided for a typical...

Abstract
Despite their simple structure and design, microcantilevers are receiving increased attention due to their unique sensing and actuation features in many MEMS and NEMS. Along this line, a non-linear distributed-parameters modeling of a microcantilever beam under the influence of a nanoparticle sample is studied in this paper. A long-range Van der Waals force model is utilized to describe the microcantilever-particle interaction along with an inextensibility condition for the microcantilever in order to derive the equations of motion in terms of only one generalized coordinate. Both of these considerations impose strong nonlinearities on the resultant integro-partial equations of motion. In...

Abstract
Frequency response behavior of microcantilever is analytically and experimentally investigated in amplitude modulation Atomic Force Microscopy (AFM). AFM microcantilever probe is modeled as a continuous beam, and tip-sample interaction force is considered to include both attractive and repulsive force regimes. The developed model is compared with the linear lumped-parameters model that has been extensively used in the literature so far. Experimental measurements are also provided for the frequency response of a typical microcantilever-sample system to demonstrate the advantages of the developed model over the linear formulation. The results indicate that the nonlinear continuous model is...

Abstract
Background: Gestational Diabetes Mellitus (GDM) is a health problem that is increasing around the world. Introduction: Prevention of GDM, rather than treatment, could have several benefits in terms of both health and economic cost. Even a slight reduction in maternal glucose in non-diabetic women, particularly in women at high risk for GDM, may have significant benefits for pregnancy results and the future health of off-springs. Probiotics are a relatively new intervention, which are assessed by mothers’ metabolism, and can reduce blood sugar levels, prevent gestational diabetes and reduce the maternal and fetal complications resulting from it. The aim of this study was to review the studies...

Abstract
Effects of fringing electrostatic fields on the behavior of a double clamped initially curved microbeam are investigated. Galerkin's decomposition method is applied on the governing Euler-Bernoulli equation with distributed electrostatic force to obtain the lumped-parameter model of the system. The resulting single degree of freedom model is obtained with the Palmer's formula as a model for the fringing field effects. To derive an applied form of the fringing field effect in lumped model, we have used Genetic Algorithms as an optimization method. Then using the lumped model, we have investigated the system nonlinear dynamics. Comparison of the obtained bifurcation diagrams with the...

Abstract
Vibration analysis of a new type of compliant parallel mechanism with flexible intermediate links is investigated. The application of the Timoshenko beam theory to the mathematical modeling of the intermediate flexible link is described, and the equations of motion of the flexible links are obtained by using Lagrange's equation of motion. The equations of motion are obtained in the form of a set of ordinary differential equations by using assumed mode method theory. The governing differential equations of motion are solved using perturbation method. The assumed mode shapes and frequencies are to be obtained based on clamped-clamped boundary conditions. Comparing perturbation method with...

Abstract
This paper presents the dynamic modeling and design of micro motion compliant parallel mechanism with flexible intermediate links and rigid moving platform. Modeling of mechanism is described with closed kinematic loops and the dynamic equations are derived using Lagrange multipliers and Kane's methods. Euler-Bernoulli beam theory is considered for modeling the intermediate flexible link. Based on the Assumed Mode Method theory, the governing differential equations of motion are derived and solved using both Runge-Kutta- Fehlberg4, 5th and Perturbation methods. The mode shapes and natural frequencies are calculated under clamped-clamped boundary conditions. Comparing perturbation method with...

Abstract
The functionalized copper oxide–zinc oxide nanocomposite (FCZN) was synthesized and characterized using Fourier transform infrared, scanning electron microscopy, X-ray diffraction, X-ray fluorescence, and BET. Dye removal from aqueous solution was done in a batch system using FCZN as an adsorbent. The effects of adsorbent dosage, initial dye concentration, pH, temperature, and additive salts on dye removal were investigated. Isotherms, kinetics, and thermodynamics of dye adsorption were studied. Equilibrium and kinetic data were fitted by Langmuir isotherm and pseudo-second-order kinetic, respectively. The thermodynamic data showed that dye adsorption was spontaneous, endothermic, and...
